As the UK Government’s primary advisory group on digital connectivity, the DCF informs policy debates with the publication of evidence-based reports and responses to public consultations.

Our reports cover a wide range of issues affecting all organisations representing the digital connectivity value chain, and are generally produced by independent analysts and researchers. Understanding the demand for new connectivity services by households and businesses in the UK and how to deploy them form the core focus of our research.

Despite the diverse nature of the DCF sponsorship, our consultation responses generally reflect common views and input into ongoing policy or legislative developments.

Why the UK needs to use advanced connectivity

The DCF commissioned Analysys Mason to produce a paper to explore a selection of the most compelling use cases to showcase the impact of advanced connectivity networks. The report highlights how 5G Standalone and FTTP can be harnessed to innovate and do new things, bringing benefits to a wide array of end users, industries and applications.

Advanced Connectivity: FTTP Take-Up Research

The Digital Connectivity Forum undertook a research project with Analysys Mason to survey fibre operators to explore the barriers and drivers behind FTTP adoption. The survey also gathered case studies of consumers, businesses and local community services adopting FTTP and other gigabit-capable broadband technologies as an enabler of new services, applications and ways of working.

Local Authorities as Connectivity Enablers

Gigabit-broadband and 5G rollout would benefit from greater communication and collaboration between local authorities and industry, according to a new report published by the DCF. The report, which was produced by the consultancy FarrPoint, was the output of interviews with 31 organisations involved in the provision of digital connectivity, including local authorities, fixed and mobile network operators, central and devolved governments, and other regulatory and policy stakeholders.

Diversity in Telecoms

The DCF undertook a landmark study with the market research agency Opinium to assess levels of diversity across the UK telecoms sector. The report provides a snapshot of the state of play across the nine protected characteristics, as well as attitudes and perceptions within the workforce itself.
