New polling shows connection speed is an issue for 1 in 4 businesses

A new study from The Forum for Private Business shows that broadband speed is a key issue for one in four businesses when asked what support they needed to make technology work more effectively.

7% of businesses felt that support was not needed and some felt that the government had hindered their ability to use technology with a number mentioning the auction by Ofcom of 4G licences as a way in which the government was adding cost to technological innovation.

When asked what Government could do to assist business, improving broadband speed was also mentioned by over one in four businesses.

The Broadband Stakeholder Group is currently doing further research into broadband usage, particularly looking at how individuals and businesses are harnessing the benefits of superfast broadband. Given that studies like these show a significant number of businesses want faster connections, and building on our 2012 study into demand for superfast broadband, we want to see how these connections would be used, and how faster connectivity having broader effects at the social and macroeconomic level.
